It’s been over a month since I last blogged. School and the entire buying-a-home process has kept me busy. But, I am here. I hope you all will forgive my absence and continue reading my blog, as I will yours.
I missed blogging about several things, but this post is dedicated to my favorite season, autumn.
Days like today – when the temperature is quite perfect, the leaves have turned their glorious shades of red, yellow, and orange, and the air seems like the purest it has been in quite some time – are wonderful. I would love to have more weather days like this – but would I still appreciate their beauty if I did? I’d like to think so, but who knows?
To celebrate my favorite season, here are a few of my favorite lines/passages about the greatness of autumn:
“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face.” ~ John Donne
Pale amber sunlight falls across
The reddening October trees,
That hardly sway before a breeze
As soft as summer: summer’s loss
Seems little, dear! on days like these.
Let misty autumn be our part!
The twilight of the year is sweet:
Where shadow and the darkness meet
Our love, a twilight of the heart
Eludes a little time’s deceit. ~ Ernest Dowson (from his poem, “Autumnal”)
“Anyone who thinks fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dancing on a windy day.” ~ Shira Tamir
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came –
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.” ~ George Cooper
the turning of a leaf
dancing in an autumn sun,
and brilliant shades of crimson
glowing when a day is done…
~Hazelmarie “Mattie” Elliott, “A Breath of Heaven”
Those are a few. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Do you have any favorite autumn quotes? Please feel free to share.
My next blog will most likely center around public speaking. Stay tuned. 🙂
